Message From The Director

FOCUS is happy to announce the appointment of three new Directors for the FOCUS Board.

Curtis Bray is retired from CSX Transportation Atlanta Division spending 34 years in a variety of jobs. He is a long time resident of Harris County. He is an active member of Bethany Baptist Church where he serves as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. He has worked with Square Foot ministry and is currently a member of Pine Mountain Revitalize Committee. His past and current community involvement demonstrate his commitment to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for families and children. He is married to Josephine and they have two children.

Colin Martin was recently appointed President and CEO of the Harris County Chamber of Commerce in September 2017. Governed by a board of business and civic leaders, the Chamber serves over 300 members through community and leadership development. Colin attends The Church of the Holy Family in Columbus and is a member of the Rotary Club of Harris County.

Jan Simmons is an active volunteer for FOCUS working as a counselor with the clients on a monthly basis. She is retired from the Harris County Schools System and has held many other jobs as a bookkeeper/secretary. She currently works with the Georgia Accounting Information Network Support, inc. which relays pertinent information to accounting personnel from all over Georgia. She is married to Dwaine and they are members of Pine Mountain United Methodist Church.

We at FOCUS are blessed to have these three very gifted members of our community as Directors. Their credentials and desire to serve those in need in our county further enhance our ability to do that, as we are guided by Jesus words in Mathew 25:40.

News from the Office

In January, FOCUS Emergency Services helped a total of 134 clients. This includes the distribution of 439 bags of food to 268 individuals in 114 families; 34 of those families included children. Also, included in these figures are bags of groceries delivered to 34 Shut-ins with food supplied by FOCUS and Enrichment Services and delivery by the Rotary Club in Hamilton and FOCUS volunteers.

Children’s Ministries

Cubs For Christ after school program for children continues to be a vibrant Christian outreach. It is held at Park Elementary School monthly with various churches and volunteers leading and teaching the children about Bible stories.

THRIVE is our newest outreach that began in September 2017. It is a tutoring and mentoring program for Park Elementary students that is conducted by volunteers on a weekly basis. It concentrates on children who could use academic help as well as mentoring.

THRIVE is in need of several volunteers to sustain the current students and to allow it to grow for the fall semester of 2018.

If you would like to volunteer for one or both of these programs, please call Bill Searcey, 706-628-9955, who will get you involved in this vital ministry to our children.

Helping Through Home Repairs

We are always looking for home repair projects to help those in need and those who cannot make the repairs for themselves. Please call FOCUS and Dick Weaver will contact you to see what we can do and when we can make your repairs.

News from the Thrift Shop

We are open for business Thursday and Friday from 10 AM until 3 PM and Saturday 10 AM until 1 PM,

Winter weather is here and we have our winter clothing available to you.

Please consider the FOCUS Thrift Shop and ask your friends to come and look at our stock of gently used clothing. As the weather grows cold, the number of clients needing financial support from FOCUS for their heating and electrical bills is climbing. The FOCUS Thrift shop is a major source of income that supports our ability to help our neighbors.

Thank you for caring for everyone in need.
