January 2018

We are showing a newly constructed set of steps built by a team of FOCUS volunteers. The steps lead to the porch of a house occupied by two elderly sisters who receive food every month, delivered by volunteers from FOCUS and Rotary Club of Harris County. The program is open to anyone living in our community who is unable to get out and receive food at our warehouse. These are our neighbors whom we refer to as “shut-ins”.

These steps replace a very dangerous set of concrete block steps. These presented a safety hazard not only to the two elderly residents but also to the volunteers delivering the food every month. We were able to construct these new steps thanks to a very generous grant from the Episcopal Community Foundation of Middle and North Georgia.

Their gift to FOCUS was specifically given to help expand and fund our food delivery program to those “shut-ins”. We deliver food to some 30 of our neighbors every month through this program and now, thanks to this gift from ECF, we will be able to add more clients to our delivery schedule.

If you know of someone in the community who is elderly, handicapped, and has no transportation, call us at FOCUS and we will see if they can qualify for our food delivery program. This is just another example of ministering to those whom Jesus referred to as “the least of our brothers and sisters”.

News from the Office

In December, FOCUS Emergency Services helped a total of 55 clients. This included the distribution of 132 bags of food to 84 individuals in 33 families; 14 of those families included children.

Children’s Ministries

Last month we showed a picture of Sara Mack leading the meeting of the Cubs for Christ. Cubs For Christ is an after school program for children that is held at Park Elementary School monthly with various churches and volunteer individuals leading and teaching the children about Bible stories.

We also mentioned last month that Sara is our Director of the FOCUS Thrive program. Thrive is a tutoring and mentoring program for Park Elementary students that is conducted by volunteers on a weekly basis. It concentrates on children who could use academic help as well as mentoring.

If you would like to volunteer for one or both of these programs, please call Bill Searcey who will get you involved in this vital ministry to our children.

Helping Through Home Repairs

During the month of December, FOCUS assisted a handicapped home owner at Pine Lake, West Point, with materials for a handicap ramp.

We are always looking for home repair projects to help those in need and those who cannot make the repairs for themselves. Please call FOCUS and Dick Weaver will contact you to see what we can do and when we can make your repairs.

News from the Thrift Shop

We are open for business Thursday and Friday from 10 AM until 3 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until 1 PM.

Cold weather is here and we have our winter clothing available to you.

We are always in need of donations which we ask you to place in the bins marked for donations on the left side of our building. You can drive up the driveway, open the donation area doors and unload your donations quickly and easily.

Thank you for caring for everyone in need.
