A Message From Executive Director Bill Searcey

The picture below shows a group of 15 kindergarten students from Lafayette Christian School in LaGrange. They have brought a donation of food to FOCUS to be used in our Thanksgiving food distribution that takes place on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Their teachers emphasized to the children that they were being a blessing to someone by the simple act of donating a can of food to be given away later to someone who had a need for food. The FOCUS Director accepted the donations and then explained what FOCUS stood for and what kinds of things the ministry does to help people in need.

It is so important to impress upon our children what it means to help someone in Christ’s name. We are so fortunate in our community to have caring teachers at all the schools who every year coordinate a food drive at their respective schools. The food is collected and then a FOCUS volunteer goes to the school and picks up the donated food.

The ultimate result is that those donated foodstuffs end up in someone’s home who has a great need. May we continue to raise up a generation who have the desire to help their brothers and sisters in need, and do it in Jesus name.

News from the Office

In October, FOCUS Emergency Services helped a total of 100 clients. This included the distribution of 348 bags of food to 192 individuals in 93 families; 25 of those families included children. Also, included in these figures are 87 bags of food for 31 “Shut-ins” with food supplied by FOCUS and delivery by the Rotary Club of Harris County.

Helping Through Home Repairs

In October FOCUS assisted an elderly homeowner in the West Point area with a new hot water heater which was installed by the Cornerstone Baptist Church’s Carpenter Workshop group.

We are always looking for home repair projects to help those in need and those who cannot make the repairs for themselves. Please call FOCUS and Dick Weaver will contact you to see what we can do and when we can make your repairs.

News from the Thrift Shop

As the sign below shows, we are open for business. As colder weather is coming, we have our fall and winter clothing available to you. Our hours are Thursday and Friday 10 AM – 3 PM and Saturday 10 AM – 1 PM.

We are always in need of donations which we ask you to place in the bins marked for donations on the left side of our building. You can drive up the driveway, open the donation area doors and unload your donations quickly and easily.

Thank you for caring for someone in need.
