A Message From Executive Director Bill Searcey

The FOCUS ministry is divided into three main areas of service; Emergency Services, Home Repair, and Food Services. We are blessed to have as the manager of each division a long time volunteer, each having served an average of 12 years. For the next three months I will profile each manager, telling very briefly about them and their responsibilities.

The first is Julie Nordin, the Food Services manager. Julie began working in the office but quickly found her niche to be working in the Food Bank and it’s related functions.

She is a retired educator, married to Larry, who recently retired and is now serving alongside her. The couple have three adult children and six grandchildren and are kept busy with family when not working at FOCUS.

The largest single function of the Food Services Division is the Thanksgiving food distribution held at the Harris County Community Center. Julie has coordinated this event for so long that it seems it happens almost without effort. But that is an illusion. She begins planning and buying in late summer and early fall and the event culminates on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. In 2016 Julie planned for over 300 Harris County families to have an average of five bags of food for the holiday.

Julie performs a myriad of functions to keep our Food Services area fully stocked and running smoothly. She also serves as a member of the FOCUS board and works on a major fund raising event sponsored by the Harris County High School Art Club.

Thanks you Julie for your selfless, faithful service to God through serving our neighbors in need.
