A Message From Executive Director Bill Searcey

FOCUS maintains a good standing in the Harris County community by virtue of its mission of helping people in need. Our ministry is known for serving Christ through our service to others, using Matthew 25:40 as our defining scripture.

So, how are all these many different areas of ministry done successfully? Only one way: through our volunteers. They are our greatest strength and without them there would be no FOCUS. Some 60-70 strong, they effectively manage the myriad of duties necessary for a successful ministry.

Our Food Bank and Emergency Services areas are now fully staffed but we have a great need now for volunteers in the Thrift Shop area. The FOCUS “Boutique” accounts for about 65% of our funding, so it is vital that it is fully staffed.

The volunteers in the shop may be asked to sort clothing and other articles, box up seasonal merchandise, price goods, prepare articles for sale, and many other tasks necessary for merchandising. Some volunteers also are cashiers, baggers, and stockers. And there are always dozens of other tasks, too many to mention, that all contribute to a sales effort supporting all FOCUS ministries.

So if any of these activities interest you, or if you have experience in any of these areas, we would love to talk to you about becoming a FOCUS volunteer. You may call the Thrift Store manager, Sherrie Mundy (706-329-1265) or send her an email at
